I grew up in the regional South Australian town of Naracoorte, taking an unlikely path to University, leaving school early and starting a five-year military career.

During my Royal Australian Navy career I was awarded recruit of the intake and the Australian Active Service medal for operations in East Timor.

I left the Navy to pursue my passion for the environment, graduating top of my class at the University of Wollongong with First class honours in a Bachelor of Environmental Science.

I went on to get a PhD from the Australian National University, focusing on management of introduced species and publishing six peer reviewed scientific papers.

I've helped reverse extinction through restoring the environment and bringing back Australian species that were once locally extinct.

I have created highly successful education programs that shared science with policy makers, local communities and students.

I was a finalist for the 2018 Eureka Prize for Science Communication and in 2019 I was a nominee for ACT Australian of the Year.

I'm currently an expedition leader at Bush Blitz, travelling to remote parts of Australia, looking for new species of plants and animals.

I live in Canberra with my partner Elsie and our young daughter.

I'm passionate about inspiring others to get outdoors and enjoy all the benefits of living a life connected to nature.
